The Government of Canada is increasing its efforts, domestically and internationally, to address the future risk of a human influenza pandemic. This risk has significantly increased since the emergence of new strains of avian influenza in China and Southeast Asia in late 2003, and the more recent spread to many countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Canadian missions and embassies abroad have been asked to develop pandemic preparedness plans. The Government of Canada is developing similar plans on a national scale, in cooperation with provincial medical authorities.
The Pandemic Influenza website brings together information from across the Government of Canada's departments and agencies, providing a central portal for information on the government's pandemic influenza plan and on public health measures for Canadians.
