Japan hosts multi-sector trade mission for Canadian firms

Tokyo, November 7-15, 2012 > Canadian companies in various industries are invited to participate at the Renewable Energy, Building, and Infrastructure Mission to Japan organized by the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo.

The objective of this mission is to demonstrate how the Canadian industry can assist with Japan’s reconstruction efforts and create long-lasting, mutually beneficial commercial opportunities for both Canada and Japan. The mission will include seminars and networking events to be held in both in Tokyo and earthquake and tsunami affected areas, where mission participants will be able to present their technologies, services, and products to a variety of Japanese stakeholders in the private and public sectors.

The Government of Japan has allocated 18 trillion yen (approximately $230 billion CAD) towards the reconstruction of the regions of Japan affected by the March 11th, 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters. Japan’s reconstruction strategy includes the promotion of energy efficient technology to realise a low-carbon, recycle-oriented and sustainable society. Many local municipalities that suffered damage are seeking to build new communities. Opportunities exist for Canadian business to take advantage of the reconstruction where local benefits in terms of transfer of technology and employment can be established with local firms.

Canadian Trade Commissioners are working closely with local governments, distributors, contractors, builders, trading, engineering and architectural firms, researchers, academics, and industry associations to organize the mission seminars and to ensure that Canadian participants will meet potential partners who could help facilitate business deals.
