TCS webinar series delivers key business advice

The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) recently launched a series of Export USA webinars — featuring leading experts on topics such as tax advice, customs compliance and banking.

From October 2009 to March 2010, the TCS will deliver 12 webinars designed to provide practical and concrete tips to Canadian companies looking to do business in the U.S.

“Our first webinar was about learning how to level the playing field against your U.S. competitors by being prepared for duty-related snags at the border,” says Guillaume Parent, Trade Commissioner and webinar moderator. “That means being customs compliant and knowing what documentation requirements an exporter might need,” he says. “We also shared tips on how to reduce transportation costs and we talked about solutions to logistics challenges.”

The next webinar will be held on November 6 and is entitled Practical Tax Advice for Canadian Companies Expanding Into the Unites States. James Sachs, a Certified Public Accountant based in Buffalo, New York, will talk about how Canadian companies can maximize their profits by understanding U.S. federal and state corporate tax systems.

The broader webinar series will also look at opportunities in specific sectors. Priority sectors include life sciences, information and communications technologies, environmental industries, agriculture, aerospace and defence.

Parent says that if Canadian companies miss the live webinar sessions, on-demand viewing will be available on the Virtual Trade Commissioner (registrations required), the personalized online gateway of the TCS that connects companies to key information and trade commissioners in their target market.
