International Trade: Minister Emerson travels to China, Mongolia and Hong Kong

Hong KongMinister Emerson pursued trade and investment opportunities in China and Mongolia - January 7-11, 2008. This official visit to China—a priority market for Canada—was a great opportunity to strengthen existing areas of cooperation and explore new openings in areas such as air services. Minister Emerson met with prominent Chinese officials in Beijing and Hong Kong and delivered a speech at Beijing’s Canada-China Business Council. In mineral-rich Mongolia, the Minister advanced Canada’s commercial interests and met with President Nambaryn Enkhbayar and other senior government officials.

Visit of Chinese Minister of Commerce Following a trade mission to China in January 2007, Minister Emerson met with Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai on May 28, 2007. The ministers focused on a forward looking agenda including discussions on Science and Technology, tourism, FIPA negotiations, the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Minister of International Trade visits China Minister Emerson led two business delegations to China from January 14 to 19, 2007. The visit included stops in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.
