Minister Van Loan visited China and Japan from May 31 to June 7, 2010.

During a four-day trade visit to China, Minister Van Loan:

While in Japan, the Minister attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting of Ministers responsible for trade in Sapporo, where he held a number of bilateral meetings. In preparation for the G-8 and G-20 Summits in Canada this year, Minister Van Loan emphasized the importance of free and open trade to the global economic recovery. In Tokyo, Minister Van Loan also met with Japanese officials and business leaders, and visited one of the first of a series of 7-Eleven stores being built in Japan using Canadian wood-frame methods and wood products.
