Minister Fast accompanied Prime Minister Harper on a visit to China from February 7 to 11. They met with President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to reinforce Canada’s commitment to deepen and broaden our relationship with China. This includes focusing on strengthening economic ties and setting the foundation for long-term growth.
- China is Canada’s second-largest merchandise trading partner.
- Bilateral merchandise trade reached $57.7 billion in 2010.
- Overall trade between the two countries more than tripled between 2001 and 2010.
Canada is active in China in support of Canadian companies, with 11 service points.
