International Trade Minister Stockwell Day and Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting November 19 and 20, 2008, in Lima, Peru. 

This year’s meeting followed up on APEC’s work in the areas of counterterrorism, emergency preparedness and regional security. APEC members discussed key issues such as open trade and investment, the multilateral trading system, regional economic integration, and human security. In addition, ministers Cannon and Day met with their APEC counterparts on a number of bilateral and multilateral issues.

The participating APEC economies are: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam.
