
Minister of International Trade Peter Van Loan and Sweden’s Minister for Higher Education and Research Tobias Krantz signed an agreement May 3 to deepen science and technology cooperation between Canada and Sweden.

Minister Van Loan visited Europe from May 3 to 7, 2010 to promote the Canada-Europe trade partnership and highlight Canada’s competitive advantages towards a comprehensive economic and trade agreement.
In Sweden, Minister Van Loan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Science and Technologyand promoted the benefits of freer trade with the European Union.
In Belgium, he joined Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the Canada-EU Summit in Brussels, a key platform for business leaders and decision makers. He also met with European Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht. They both agreed to attempt to conclude a final economic and trade agreement by the end of 2011.
Minister Van Loan ended his visit in Spain, where he met with his Spanish counterparts and delivered a keynote speech about Canada’s economic advantage to more than 120 business leaders and investors at a conference in Madrid.
