Minister Day visited Brazil and Ecuador from August 21 to 25. He met with key business and government officials in both countries to open doors for Canadian business and to promote trade and investment.

During his visit to Brazil on August 21 and 22, Minister Day inaugurated a new Canadian trade office in Recife city. This new trade office will be the central point of contact for Canadian firms and for Brazilian businesses seeking to establish links in key sectors such as information and communication technologies, oil and gas, agricultural technologies, health industries and science and technology.

On August 24, Minister Day went to Quito, Ecuador, to expand trade opportunities for Canadian business and to explore ways Canada and Ecuador can work more closely together to resist protectionism. The Minister also promoted new measures recently implemented by the Government of Canada to help Canadian mining, oil and gas companies meet and exceed their social and environmental responsibilities when operating abroad.
