Minister Day spoke to British Columbia business leaders and international representatives at a conference on “Canada in the Global Economy” on Thursday, March 26, 2009. The conference, co-hosted by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) and the Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC), was organized as part of DFAIT's centennial celebrations.
Minister Day took this opportunity to talk about Canada’s aggressive trade and investment strategy and work opening doors for Canadian businesses to help them compete in global markets during these tough economic times. He also outlined efforts to attract new and expanded foreign investment in Canada in the lead up to the 2010 Winter Games. Increasing market access, investment attraction and innovation are at the heart of Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy.
