The Trade Controls & Technical Barriers Bureau (TCTBB) is responsible for administering the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) which was first enacted in 1947. The EIPA delegates to the Minister of Foreign Affairs wide discretionary powers to control the flow of goods contained in specified lists provided for under the Act.
On May 3, 2012, the Government of Canada concluded the regulatory process issuing GEP No. 43 – Nuclear Goods and Technology to Certain Destinations and GEP No. 44 - Nuclear-related Dual-use Goods and Technology to Certain Destinations and cancelling GEP No. 27 – Nuclear-Related Dual-Use Goods.
The purpose of this Notice is to advise exporters that, pursuant to the Export and Import Permits Act, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has issued two General Export Permits (GEPs) relating to the export of certain nuclear and nuclear-related dual-use goods and technology to certain destinations.
On April 24, 2012, the Government of Canada finalized the regulatory process to amend the Area Control List (ACL). This amendment formally removes Myanmar (Burma) from the ACL, a list of countries to which the Governor in Council deems it necessary to control the export or transfer of any goods and technology.
The Export Controls Handbook is designed to be the main reference tool to assist exporters with questions about the administration of Canada’s export controls which are administered pursuant to the Export Control List, the Area Control List and the Automatic Firearms Country Control List under the authority of the Export and Import Permits Act.
