Notice to Exporters: Application for Saskatchewan Allocation

Notice to Exporters #161, dated December 31, 2008, outlined the methodology for softwood lumber export allocations for Option B regions, including Saskatchewan, during 2009. An automated system is currently being developed to implement the new allocation methodology for Saskatchewan. This notice outlines the interim procedures for those companies wishing to apply for an export permit to export softwood lumber products first processed in the province of Saskatchewan to the United States. These procedures will apply until a subsequent notice is issued once the automated system is implemented. Companies who do not hold an export allocation for softwood lumber products first processed in Saskatchewan, or that have fully utilized their monthly allocations, will need to apply on a transaction by transaction basis for the requested export allocation to the Export and Import Controls Bureau.

The application for an export allocation must include the following information:

• The transfer account EICB # to which the export allocation would be transferred should the requested export allocation be issued;
• The board footage required;
• The month and year during which the related exportation will take place; and
• Reference identification(s) from any previous applications related to the export allocation request.

All requests for export allocations must be submitted by the company itself, and may be made by email or fax to:

Note:

• All requests for export allocations will be processed on a transaction by transaction basis;
• Any remaining export allocation balances will be returned to the regional allocations available for Saskatchewan once the applicable export permits have been issued; and
• Export allocations are issued at the discretion of the Minister and are subject to verification. This may result in adjustments being made to an export allocation to account for errors, corrections or omissions.
