Surface Transportation Security

Canada also promotes security on our rail, subway and mass transit systems. After bombings in Madrid in 2004 and London in 2005 targeted railways and subways, the Government moved quickly to establish a Rail and Mass Transit Task Force within Transport Canada.

In it, transportation security experts collaborate closely with other G8 and APEC countries to share best practices, set up security, and prepare for and respond to terrorist attacks on rail and mass transit systems. Transport Canada also works with its provincial and municipal partners to identify vulnerabilities in domestic public transit systems, enhance their safety and prepare emergency services should an attack occur.
