There is no fee for submitting a request to the CSR Counsellor or for using our services.
Requesters must have tried to engage with the other party in some way before making a request to the CSR Counsellor. In the case of a project-affected person, group or community, normally they are first expected to have approached the company (by phoning or writing to them), or have used the company’s on-site grievance mechanism (if one exists).
Requesters must also express their commitment to engage in a constructive dialogue with the CSR Counsellor’s Office and eventually with the other party.
Issues to be addressed must be connected with the endorsed performance standards. The Office of the CSR Counsellor cannot accept requests that are about matters of host country law, Canadian law, international law, corruption of foreign public officials, or other criminal activities.
If you are ready to submit a request to the CSR Counsellor, these are the steps you should follow:
Ensure you have read and understood the Rules of Procedure for the Review Process.
Complete and include with your submission the Request for Review Cover Form. You may submit additional information, but it is not necessary to do so.
Send your completed Cover Form and any other documents by electronic or regular mail, or by fax. See our Contact Us page.
Note: All documents must be in one of Canada’s two official languages, English or French. Requests in other languages will not be considered.
For additional guidance, read our Guidance Notes for participants on important themes.
Please note that only complete submissions will be registered with the CSR Counsellor’s Office and posted on the online registry of requests. We will advise you if a request is incomplete and let you know what other information you need to provide to us.
