Our Advisory Role
One of the roles of the Office of the Extractive Sector Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Counsellor is to advise stakeholders on the implementation of the voluntary performance standards endorsed in the Government of Canada’s CSR Strategy for the Canadian International Extractive Sector. Read more about the endorsed performance standards.
We define “stakeholders” broadly for the purposes of our advisory work. All efforts we undertake are in the public interest – we do not offer a consulting service to individual companies, but rather information for the benefit of the public on issues connected with the implementation of the endorsed performance standards.
In carrying out our advisory work, we focus on the implementation of the endorsed performance standards, and on conflict reduction and prevention.
Some of our advisory activities include the following:
- Discussion Note Series
- Learning Partnerships
- Monthly OpEd in the Canadian Mining Journal on “CSR and Mining”
- Select other works by the CSR Counsellor in external media publications
