Our Advisory Role

One of the roles of the Office of the Extractive Sector Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Counsellor is to advise stakeholders on the implementation of the voluntary performance standards endorsed in the Government of Canada’s CSR Strategy for the Canadian International Extractive Sector. We define “stakeholders” broadly for the purposes of our advisory work. All efforts we undertake are in the public interest – we do not offer a consulting service to individual companies, but rather information for the benefit of the public on issues connected with the implementation of the endorsed performance standards.

In carrying out our advisory work, we focus on the implementation of the endorsed performance standards, and on conflict reduction and prevention.
