I desire to express on behalf of the Government of Canada and also personally the gratification with which Your Excellency's51 telegram announcing the establishment of the United Kingdom of Libya was received. I should be grateful if you would convey to His Majesty King Mohamed Idriss el Mahdi es Senussi the felicitations of the Government of Canada on his accession to the throne and I shall look forward to receiving the text of His Majesty's proclamation on this historic occasion. I am sure that all Canadians share the pleasure of their government in welcoming the United Kingdom of Libya to its place among the free, independent and sovereign nations of the world.
