  • Formerly known as Portuguese Guinea. On 12 August 1974, it was announced that Canada had given diplomatic recognition to independent Guinea-Bissau. By 1975, it was agreed that the two countries would exchange non-resident diplomatic representatives. The Ambassador to Senegal was concurrently accredited as Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, resident in Dakar, Senegal.
