Energy Policy

Foreign Affairs established the Energy Secretariat (GDEE) in November 2005, to strengthen the department's capacity to analyse key energy security and related issues in close collaboration with other divisions, bureaus, missions abroad, other government departments and various stakeholders.

The secretariat provides analysis and advice on energy issues as they arise in international forums and processes such as the International Energy Agency, the International Energy Forum and the G8, as well as in a wide range of regional energy working groups and the full spectrum of bilateral energy relations.
