Gain a Year of Valuable International Work Experience

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 35, you can gain valuable professional experience working for a foreign company overseas with opportunities to:

  • Work on teams from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Learn new approaches to doing business
  • Experience a different country
  • Learn or perfect another language
  • Widen your career horizons back in Canada

Why not travel and work abroad through International Experience Canada (IEC)?

In this global economy, being a highly skilled professional with diverse international experience will only make you more marketable in an increasingly competitive job market.

International Experience Canada secures bilateral reciprocal youth mobility arrangements and agreements with different countries around the world to make it easier for you to travel and work in other countries for up to one year.

Imagine working in a lab in Sweden, a design firm in Spain or a business in the Netherlands... The possibilities are as endless as the experiences you can add to your resumé!

Canadian citizens have two options for planning a Young Professionals work experience abroad:

Independent Travel Abroad

  • Do you have your year-long international work experience lined up?
  • Choose your destination and start the application process.
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Please note: IEC does not help with financing, travel plans or job search.

Travel Abroad Through a Recognized Organization

  • Need help planning your international work experience year abroad?
  • Choose your destination.
  • Contact one of our recognized organizations. (These are non-governmental organizations that charge a fee for their services.)
  • Please note: IEC does not help with financing, travel plans or job search.
  • These organizations may be able to help if you would like to live and work in a country where youth mobility arrangements or agreements with Canada don’t exist at this time.
