Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia and the first to be directly elected. He was re-elected to a second term in the 2009 presidential election.
President Yudhoyono graduated from the Indonesian Military Academy in 1973. His military career included a tour as chief UN military observer in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1999, he retired early from the military to join the Cabinet of President Abdurrahman Wahid. He then joined the Cabinet of President Megawati as Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, where worked as Indonesia’s counter-terrorism czar before deciding to run for President.
President Yudhoyono studied at Webster University in St. Louis, U.S.A., where he received his Master of Arts in Management in 1991. In 2004, he earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Indonesia’s Bogor Institute of Agriculture.
