Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
On October 27, 2017, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed David Morrison as Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Morrison had served as Assistant Deputy Minister (Americas) and Chief Development Officer at Global Affairs Canada.
David Morrison began his career as a UN Development Programme (UNDP) Junior Professional Officer in North Korea in the late 1980s. In 1989, he joined the Canadian Foreign Service where his assignments included the Canadian Embassy in Havana, and Policy Staff for the 1995 G8 Summit in Halifax. From 1995 – 2008 he worked in a variety of capacities for the World Economic Forum in Geneva and the UN in New York.
He joined CIDA in 2012 from the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) in New York, where he served as Executive Secretary from 2008 - 2012.
Mr. Morrison holds a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. He has two young children.
