Intercultural Effectiveness

The objective of our program is to provide intercultural effectiveness expertise at the individual and organizational levels to support DFATD, DND and OGDs, and their partners, so as to help them achieve their policy and program objectives in an intercultural environment.

Foreign Languages

Classroom and online, full-time and part-time proficiency-oriented language training in a number of foreign languages are offered by the Canadian Foreign Service Institute.

The objective of our proficiency programs is to increase professional competency and to facilitate social integration during assignment abroad.

The following services are available:

  • training and assessment in foreign languages in 44 languages
  • classroom courses offered to groups
  • private courses
  • delivery of proficiency certificates
  • online learning resources

Corporate Accountability

The Resource Management Unit (RMU) provides training on human resources, financial management, property and material management, Foreign Service directives and Occupational Health and Safety.

The Information Management and Technology (IMT) Unit provides instructor-led classroom training and instructor-led web training. The IMT Unit provides training on information management software and department-specific software.

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Unit provides instructor-led classroom training to employees at Headquarters and remote training to employees at missions. The ERP Unit provides training on Integrated Management System (IMS) and Human Resource Management System.

Specialized training is offered to other government departments (OGDs) on an ad hoc basis.
