Minister Cannon to Host Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan at Event Marking 80 Years of Canada-Japan Diplomatic Relations

(No. A/71 - July 7, 2009) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will host a special event on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, to mark the visit to Canada by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Canada-Japan diplomatic relations.

The Minister will deliver brief remarks, after which there will be performances and presentations including:

  • a presentation of archival film and photos;
  • the unveiling of Royal Canadian Mint and Canada Post special collectors’ items by Ian Bennett, President of the Royal Canadian Mint, and Robert Waite, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsibility, at Canada Post;
  • a performance by Monkey Majik;
  • a presentation by Steven MacLean, Canadian astronaut and President of the Canadian Space Agency; and
  • a performance by Famous PEOPLE Players.

Media representatives should arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. for set-up.

Upon arrival, media representatives are required to present proper identification for accreditation.
