(No. A/45 - March 16, 2010) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will give a speech in Ottawa on March 17 to mark the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20, and to demonstrate Canada’s solidarity with Haiti. Minister Cannon will be accompanied by the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister for La Francophonie, and Haitian chargé d’affaires Nathalie Gissel-Menos.
Minister Cannon will also take advantage of celebrations of La Francophonie’s 40th anniversary to recognize the efforts of Canadian public servants in Haiti, a friend to Canada. This important member of the community of francophone nations was devastated by an earthquake on January 12.
