Baird Welcomes Greek Counterpart

February 26, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will host his counterpart, Dimitris Avramopoulos, Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is on his first visit to Canada as foreign minister.

Canada and Greece recently celebrated 70 years of bilateral relations. The two ministers will discuss opportunities to further deepen the relationship, including through new trade and business links.

A brief photo opportunity is planned at the start of the meeting. After their meeting, ministers Baird and Avramopoulos will hold a joint media availability.

The visit of Minister Avramopoulos highlights the important role of the Greek-Canadian community in Canada, whose academic, economic and political contributions form the foundation of the strong Canada-Greece relationship. Minister Avramopoulos will also visit Toronto and Montréal.
