Canada Condemns Attacks in Pakistan

(No. 305 - October 15, 2009 - 3 p.m. EDT) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement condemning the recent spate of deadly bombings across Pakistan:

"Canada strongly condemns these attacks. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who were killed, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

"Canada is committed to helping ensure peace and security in the region. A secure and stable Pakistan is important for long-term regional stability and international security. Canada is working with Pakistan and our allies to help Pakistan overcome the challenges it is facing, including its fight against violent extremism.

"Canada supports the advancement of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Pakistan and all countries of the world."
