(No. 366- December 1, 2009 - 1:30 p.m EST) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that he will attend a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels from December 3 to 4, 2009.
"I look forward to substantive discussions on NATO’s efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and elsewhere beyond the Euro-Atlantic region,” said Minister Cannon. “I also look forward to discussing the continued transformation of NATO, as well as Canada’s role in the review of NATO’s strategic concept. Canada intends to continue playing its part to ensure that the alliance is ready to address the security challenges of the 21st century."
The NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting will include meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the NATO-Georgia Commission and the NATO-Russia Council. Allies will also meet with ministers from non-NATO countries contributing to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan to discuss developments in that country.
