Canada Condemns Terrorist Attack on Kabul
The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement on the violent terrorist attack on Afghanistan's national institutions, including the justice and education ministries, in Kabul:
"Canada strongly condemns the terrorist attack on Afghanistan's capital and its people. This deliberate and reprehensible attack on Afghanistan's national institutions injured and killed innocent Afghans, including civilians and security personnel. These coordinated attacks once again highlight the systematic destruction that the Taliban are willing to unleash against the Afghan people.
"Canada is proud to support the people of Afghanistan in their fight to build a peaceful, democratic country that respects human rights. The international community is committed to supporting the Government of Afghanistan to help promote the rule of law and ensure the country is never again used as a safe haven for terrorists.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We also wish a full and prompt recovery to those who were injured."
The attack did not take place in the vicinity of the Canadian Embassy, and all personnel there are safe.
