(No. 103 - April 17, 2009) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that he will be visiting Mexico on April 20, 2009, to meet Secretary of Foreign Affairs Patricia Espinosa.
"I look forward to my first official visit to Mexico," said Minister Cannon. "Meeting with Secretary Espinosa will provide an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest and strengthen the deep ties that bind our two countries. Our relationship is based on shared fundamental values. We are close friends and neighbours, as well as strategic partners on North American, hemispheric and global issues.
Minister Cannon will also meet with other members of Mexico's Cabinet to discuss a broad range of issues, including security, the global economy, climate change, energy, and labour and youth mobility. The Minister will take the opportunity to reaffirm Canada's support of the Government of Mexico's efforts to tackle organized crime and improve public security.
This year, Mexico and Canada mark the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.
