(No. 173 - June 23, 2009)The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the reappointment of John H. McArthur as chairman of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s Board of Directors.
“We are grateful to Mr. McArthur for agreeing to a second term as chairman of the Foundation,” said Minister Cannon. “His vision and leadership have been appreciated by the Foundation, as well as by academia, the media, business, government policy-makers and other groups it serves.”
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is an independent, not-for-profit think tank focused on Canada’s relations with the Asia-Pacific region. The Foundation brings together people and knowledge to provide current and comprehensive research, analysis and information on Canada’s trans-Pacific relations. It promotes dialogue on economic, security, political and social issues, helping to foster informed decision making and understanding of Canada’s Asia-Pacific relations and ties.
Created in 1984 by an act of Parliament, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is funded by an endowment provided by the Government of Canada.

John H. McArthur (BCom [Forestry], University of British Columbia, 1957; MBA, Harvard Business School, 1959; DBA, Harvard Business School, 1963) has held numerous corporate directorships, committee memberships and consulting posts in business, government, education and health care organizations around the world. He served as dean of the faculty, Harvard University Graduate School of Business, from 1980 to 1995, and since 1996, as senior adviser to the president of the World Bank. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Mr. McArthur has been Chairman of the Board of the Asia Pacific Foundation since November 2005.
