Canada Offers Condolences Following Typhoon Morakot
(No. 222 - August 13, 2009) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today offered Canada’s condolences to the people of China, the Philippines and Taiwan following the tragic loss of life resulting from Typhoon Morakot.
"On behalf of the government and people of Canada, I extend our sincerest sympathies to those affected by the typhoon," said Minister Cannon.
"Canadian officials in Ottawa and staff in China, the Philippines and Taiwan are closely monitoring the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot. We recognize that Taiwan has been particularly hard-hit by the storm."
Canadians in the affected areas who require emergency consular assistance should contact the Canadian Embassy in Beijing at 86 (10) 5139-4000, the Canadian Embassy in Manila at 63 (2) 857-9000 or 857-9001 or the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei at 886 (2) 2544-3000.
