Canada Condemns Iranian Missile Test
(No. 391 - December 16, 2009 - 5:40 p.m. EST) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement regarding Iran’s test launch of a medium-range ballistic missile today:
“Canada is deeply concerned by Iran’s continued ballistic missile activity. Canada calls on Iran to immediately cease its ballistic missile programs, which, together with Iran’s clandestine nuclear activities, pose a grave threat to international peace and security.
“Iran’s actions are unacceptable, and today’s missile test severely obstructs ongoing diplomatic efforts. We once again call on Iran to respond constructively to the diplomatic efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany. We also demand that Iran cooperate fully with the Agency’s investigation of the country’s entire nuclear program, including its illegal enrichment activities.
“Canada will work in concert with its allies to address Iran’s continued non-compliance with its international obligations.”
