Canada Condemns Mosque Bombing in Iran
(No. 226 - July 16, 2010 - 4:15 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement condemning yesterday’s twin suicide attacks at the Jamia mosque in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan:
“Canada strongly condemns the deadly suicide bombings that claimed the lives of more than 25 people at the Jamia mosque in the Iranian city of Zahedan yesterday. This terrorist attack, claimed by the militant group Jundallah, has killed scores of innocent people and injured more than 170 others.
“I am deeply saddened by this violent atrocity. On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed in yesterday’s attacks, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Our thoughts are with the Iranian people.
“Canada hopes that the perpetrators of these violent acts will be brought to justice.”
