Canada Offers Condolences after Flooding in Pakistan
(No. 244 - August 1, 2010 - 2:55 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the significant flooding in Pakistan:
“On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy to those who have been affected by this terrible disaster. We send our condolences to the grieving families—our thoughts are with you.
“We are monitoring the situation very closely and working with local authorities. Canada will continue to examine options available to support the affected population over the next few days as specific needs are identified by Pakistani authorities and international agencies.
“Officials in Ottawa and at Canada’s High Commission to Pakistan are providing consular assistance to Canadians who have been affected by the floods.”
