Canada-Lithuania Youth Mobility Agreement Comes into Force

(No. 320 - October 1, 2010 - 10 a.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that the Canada-Lithuania Youth Mobility Agreement is now in force. The agreement simplifies the administrative process for Canadians and Lithuanians between the ages of 18 and 35 to travel, work and live in each other’s country for up to one year.

“This agreement offers an excellent opportunity for young adults from Canada and Lithuania to gain unique travel, work and life experiences,” said Minister Cannon. “These exchanges will not only allow participants to acquire new skills, but also further strengthen the ties between Canada and Lithuania.”

Canada currently has 30 such bilateral youth mobility arrangements under the International Experience Canada (IEC) initiative. In 2009, more than 73,000 youths from Canada and around the world benefited from this initiative.

Young Canadians and Lithuanians interested in participating in this initiative are invited to submit their applications starting today.

To apply, Canadians interested in going to Lithuania should contact the Embassy of Lithuania to Canada by phone at 613-567-5458 or by email at Likewise, Lithuanians interested in going to Canada should consult IEC on the Embassy of Canada to Lithuania’s website.
