Canada Expresses Condolences to Cambodia Following Water Festival Tragedy
(No. 371 - November 23, 2010 - 2:10 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today expressed condolences to the people of Cambodia after the devastating stampede that resulted in hundreds of deaths and countless injuries on Monday, November 22, 2010, the final day of Cambodia’s annual water festival.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the families who lost loved ones and wish those who were injured a quick recovery,” said Minister Cannon. “Our thoughts remain with all Cambodians at this difficult time as they cope with this tragic event.”
To date, there are no reports of any Canadians being involved.
The Canadian mission in Bangkok, Thailand, is working closely with local authorities and partners.
