Minister Cannon Condemns Kabul Attack
(No. 36 - January 28, 2011 - 1:15 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement condemning today's attack in Kabul's Wazir Akbar Khan district, which killed or injured many Afghans and foreigners:
"Canada strongly condemns the bombing of a Kabul supermarket that killed and wounded numerous civilians today.
"This cowardly attack demonstrates that the insurgents have complete disregard for the safety and lives of civilians. Afghans and members of the international community are working together to help build a more stable and secure Afghanistan.
"Those who perpetrated this act of violence and those that support the insurgency must be held accountable to the Afghan people for this injustice.
"On behalf of all Canadians, we extend our sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and injured in this horrible and senseless act of terror."
