(No. 69 – February 18, 2011 – 10:30 a.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement concerning the protests that have taken place in Bahrain:
"Canada regrets the loss of life in Bahrain and calls on all parties to refrain from violence. We urge the Bahraini authorities to exercise restraint, and we encourage the Bahraini government to promptly investigate the deaths of protesters.
"Canada urges Bahrain to respect its citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and assembly, and to engage in peaceful dialogue with its people to address their concerns."
