(No. 75 - February 22, 2011 - 6:45 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will travel to New York City on February 23, 2011, to deliver a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations.
Minister Cannon will highlight Canada’s partnership with the United States, particularly the two countries’ high level of economic integration and strong commitment to their common security.
"Since we took office, our government has been focused on creating jobs and expanding economic growth through free, open and secure trade,” said Minister Cannon.
Minister Cannon will also highlight the recent declaration agreed to by Prime Minister Harper and President Obama, which enhances the open collaboration that continues to grow between the two countries.
"Keeping our shared border open to commerce and investment, and closed to criminal and terrorist elements, is a key to our future prosperity,” added Minister Cannon. "Like all partnerships, our cooperation at the border needs to evolve to address the security and economic challenges of the future.
"Canada and the United States enjoy an excellent and unparalleled bilateral relationship forged by shared geography, common values and interests, vibrant social connections and multi-layered economic ties," concluded the Minister.
