Canada Condemns Terrorist Attack in Morocco

(No. 127 - April 29, 2011 - 5 p.m. ET) The Government of Canada today issued the following statement condemning the explosion that occurred in Marrakesh, Morocco, on April 28, 2011:

The Government of Canada strongly condemns the terrorist attack on a café in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Authorities in Morocco have confirmed that one Canadian citizen is among the victims who lost their lives in the explosion. Consular assistance is being provided to the family in this difficult time.

We have no further information regarding other Canadian injuries or fatalities at this time. Consular officials in Rabat are working closely with local authorities to obtain additional information.

The government expresses its sincerest condolences to the victims of this terrorist attack, and to their families and loved ones, most particularly the family of the Canadian citizen killed in this attack.
