Minister of State Ablonczy to Attend Peruvian Presidential Inauguration

(No. 215 - July 27, 2011 - 10:30 a.m. ET) The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today announced that she will attend the July 28, 2011, inauguration of Peru’s new president, Ollanta Humala.

"Peru is a key partner under Canada’s engagement in the Americas, and we are actively involved with Peru in advancing prosperity, democracy, human rights and security in the region,” said Minister of State Ablonczy. "We look forward to expanding and deepening our bilateral relationship under President Humala’s government."

Canada and Peru closely cooperate on political and economic matters, including the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement and its parallel agreements on environmental and labour cooperation. Canada is also a major investor in Peru, particularly in the extractive sector. In 2009, the Canadian International Development Agency selected Peru as one of its 20 countries of focus as part of Canada’s new aid effectiveness agenda.
