Minister Ambrose to Attend APEC Women and the Economy Summit in San Francisco

(No. 261 - September 12, 2011 – 7:30 p.m. ET) The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today announced that she will lead, on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, the Canadian delegation at the APEC Women and the Economy Summit. The summit will take place in San Francisco from September 13 to 16, 2011, during the first part of the third APEC Senior Officials Meeting.

"The Government of Canada is committed to working with business and industry stakeholders to offer key services that will help Canadian business women in international markets," said Minister Ambrose.

The summit will involve more than 500 representatives from the APEC economies. Delegates will exchange ideas and make recommendations for policies and projects encouraging women's involvement in economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

During the summit, Minister Ambrose will attend the Women's Entrepreneurship and Innovation Round Table and have bilateral meetings with delegates from participating countries. The Minister will also participate in a round-table discussion on ways to engage women and girls in leadership roles.

On September 15, Minister Ambrose will deliver an address to a group of women business leaders in which she will highlight the Government of Canada's leadership in promoting gender equality and women's entrepreneurship in Canada. She will also seek support for Canada's initiative to proclaim September 22 as the International Day of the Girl.
