Canada Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Turkey
(No. 309 - October 19, 2011 - 5:30 p.m. ET) Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today condemned recent attacks that resulted in the death of over 20 Turkish soldiers and civilians, including two children, in southeast Turkey:
“Canada strongly condemns these cowardly attacks in Turkey and stands with the Turkish people at this time of national mourning.
“Canada is committed to work with the Turkish government in combating terrorism in all its forms. The PKK [Kurdistan Workers Party] is a listed terrorist entity in Canada.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the attacks and wish a swift recovery to the injured.”
