(No. 332 - November 5, 2011 - 8:50 p.m. ET) Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement on the recent terror attacks that killed more than 100 people in Northeast Nigeria:
“Canada strongly denounces these cowardly acts, which reportedly included attacks on places of worship.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my sympathies to the families and friends of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
“Canada stands with the Government and people of Nigeria as they continue to confront terrorism and inter-communal and religious violence.”
Radical terrorist group Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the deadliest attacks in the recent wave of bombings and shootings. Canada firmly supports the people and the Government of Nigeria in their efforts to bring about a secure, stable, unified and democratic country.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada encourages Canadians travelling to or residing in Nigeria to regularly consult the Nigeria Travel Report for updated information, and to register with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service at www.travel.gc.ca in order to receive the latest advice from the High Commission of Canada to Nigeria in Abuja.
