(No. 364 - December 7, 2011 - 6:15 p.m. ET) The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today announced she will visit Uruguay and Argentina from December 7 to 11, 2011.
“Canada shares with Uruguay and Argentina a long history of commitment to a wide range of common values, including democracy, human rights, peace and security,” said Minister of State Ablonczy. “Our participation with both Uruguay and Argentina in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti is but one example of our solid tradition of collaboration in the hemisphere.”
While in Uruguay, Minister of State Ablonczy will meet with Vice President Danilo Astori and with Foreign Affairs Minister Luis Almagro. She will also participate in a round table with representatives of Canadian companies in Uruguay and other stakeholders.
In Argentina, the Minister of State will attend the December 10 inauguration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as president. She will also meet with representatives of Canadian companies doing business in the country.
“My visit to these countries will strengthen Canada’s long-standing friendship with two important and influential regional and global partners and is another example of Canada’s commitment to the Americas,” said the Minister of State.
