April 27, 2012 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement in response to reports that a series of explosions rocked Dnipropetrovsk in which dozens of people are believed to have been injured:
“This is a sad situation and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
“Canada condemns these cowardly acts without reservation and supports efforts to bring those responsible to justice swiftly.
“The investigation must, however, be fair and free of political interference.
“We also strongly encourage the Ukrainian government not to use this unfortunate situation as a pretext to curtail basic freedoms like freedom of expression.
“Of course, Canada denounces terrorism in all its forms and stands with those engaged in fighting it.”
