Baird and Ablonczy Offer Condolences Following Fatal Airplane Crash in Nigeria
June 3, 2012 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Minister of State (Consular and the Americas), the Honourable Diane Ablonczy today issued the following statement:
“On behalf of all Canadians, we extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the victims of today’s tragic airplane crash. All 153 people aboard the plane are likely to have perished. Many more people on the ground are also dead or injured.
“We are working with Nigerian authorities to determine whether Canadians are among the victims.
“Should consular assistance be required, we stand ready to provide it to the families and loved ones of those lost in this horrific tragedy.
“Canada stands with the people of Nigeria as they begin three days of national mourning.”
