Baird Offers Condolences After Vessel Capsizes in Indonesian Waters
June 22, 2012 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I offer condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic capsizing of a boat off the coasts of Indonesia and Australia.
“This tragedy is a symptom of the global problem of migrant smuggling.
“It also shows the callousness and disdain for human life of the criminal syndicates, facilitators and smugglers who organize these ventures.
“We commend the Australian and Indonesian authorities who responded quickly to the distress call.”
