Canada Condemns Syria’s Downing of Turkish Aircraft
June 24, 2012 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“Canada condemns in the strongest terms the aggressive and unjustified attack against a clearly marked Turkish aircraft by the Syrian military.
“This deplorable incident, targeting a routine training mission, threatens to inflame already-heightened tensions.
“Today I spoke with Turkey’s chargé d’affaires to Canada and relayed our praise for the Turkish government’s resolve and restraint in the face of such a provocative attack.
“As a NATO ally, we stand with the Turkish people and their government. We also reserve special thoughts for the missing Turkish pilots and their loved ones.”
