Baird Concerned over Romanian Impeachment
July 7, 2012 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“Canada is concerned by recent events in Romania that threaten democratic checks and balances and weaken the independence of the judiciary.
“Canada is following closely the impeachment of Romanian president Traian Băsescu and urges that this process be conducted in a fair and transparent manner and in respect of the rule of law.
“Canada stands with Transatlantic and European Union partners in urging Romania to uphold its democratic principles and values.”
